Good Evening CMHS Parents, Caregivers, Students and Guardians,

We would like to celebrate some of the fantastic things that have been happening at Central recently. First, a huge congratulations to Adam Mailman and the PVA band on their outstanding showing at MusicFest Nationals this past week. For context, bands must win a regional competition or submit a video recording of their performance to be invited to enter the National competition. During the competition, hundreds of bands (326 in the Concert Band category alone) played all week to a panel of four adjudicators who record feedback during the performance and critiqued everything about the playing, including the conductor! Naturally, our band was awarded Gold for their performance, wowing the audience and the judges alike!

More importantly, however, they represented Central all week with class, respect, and pride – we received compliments everywhere we went about how kind our students were and how wonderfully they treated others. From West Jet employees, to York Music Professors, to guests at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, people went out of their way to point out how amazing our students behaved.

I would also like to congratulate all of our students who won Fine and Performing Arts awards last night during the opening evening of the PVA Gala. It was a beautiful ceremony and so rewarding to hear staff and students recognizing one another on the hard work, dedication, passion and outstanding achievements within our school. There are still tickets available for tonight’s Gala – if you are on the fence about attending, please come down to the school and experience our amazing student work!

While we are recognizing excellence, congratulations to Michelle Crimmins, Jill Tuttle, and the incredible Fine and Performing Arts team for being nominated for a Calgary Award. This honour recognizes the contributions our staff has made to the Calgary arts community and the impact our program has outside the classroom and across the city!

Finally, next Thursday is our Athletic Awards Evening, a fantastic event that celebrates the outstanding achievements of our athletes at Central Memorial. As we enter playoff season for our spring sports, we want to congratulate all our teams representing our school. The playoffs begin today with Jr. Boys’ Soccer followed tomorrow by Track and Field City Finals and then it will be a whirlwind two weeks as field hockey, rugby and soccer teams compete for championships!

When one Ram wins, we all win – and believe me, we all won big this past week! Brian Cheney,

On behalf of the Central Administration Team
