Good Evening CMHS Parents, Caregivers, Students and Guardians,
It has been great to be back at school after the winter break, which already feels like a distant memory. I appreciated the opportunity to reconnect with our School Council on Tuesday evening and always value the conversations with parents and guardians who attend these meetings. Parents play a vital role in student success and can participate in decisions that impact student learning through School Council. By contributing their knowledge, perspectives, and ideas at meetings, parents actively support the success of both our school community and the broader school district.
School Councils are an important avenue for accessing stakeholder voices, supporting parental involvement, and enhancing student learning. The Government of Alberta recognizes the value of parents and the community in the education of children and, by law, requires School Councils in every school operated by an Alberta school board. Established School Councils focus on what is best for all students, consider the interests of all school stakeholders, help develop, maintain, and reflect the culture of the school, and represent the parent voice within the school community.
Our next scheduled meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 10, where Assistant Principal Cheney will present our school’s Data Story and School Development Plan for the year. We will also be gathering engagement feedback from parents, as at the CBE, every voice matters. The administration team at CMHS is committed to involving our community in decisions that affect our students, and parent and guardian perspectives are essential in helping us make the best possible choices. Our engagement work is guided by the Principles of Dialogue which are: inclusivity, honesty, accountability, mutual respect, and responsiveness.
Thank you to our School Council members for all they do to support our students in so many meaningful ways. I truly appreciate each of you and wish our entire school community a wonderful weekend
Anne Kromm
Principal
